Chateau Cardillo (realflow practice)

Chateau Cardillo is a Cocktail drink composed of Pear Juice, Champagne and and Raspberry Liqeuer.
This motion graphic was to created in the form of a graphical recipe inspired by Splash photography.

Here is an over view the shots:

This first shot is a still render using a combination of Vray, Realflow, Maya and Photoshop. I decided to take advantage of the 3d layers in After Effects to create depth with the rendered water droplets. The still render was split up in PS and animated in AE. This saved me time rendering 300 frames in Vray which would have been slower due to the reflective materials.

This shot took the longest to render.  I decided to animate the camera in 3d to keep the shot consistent with the champagne shooting upwards. I tried placing it on a 3d layer and animating it in AE but I wasn't happy with the results.  In Realflow I used a circle emitter inside the bottle and timed the water with the cork pop.  The ice material is the same the water.  I borrowed a technique from
Andrew Kramer aka AE guru from the website http://www.videocopilot.net/ (Translucent Glass). Very versatile technique that creates the illusion of the text coming from behind an object.

The above shot was also animated in Maya with a 3d camera. I wanted to get a close up shot of the champagne in slow motion. Took ages to render :|

Maybe the easiest shot of them all yet looks quite complex. This shot was composed of two stills that I created alpha channels for. I then used the alpha's to animate the displacement which creates the
3d illusion.

3d text brought into Realflow whilst inside a box. Filled the box with water. In AE I reversed the footage to create a reveal animation for typo.  I was originally using Blender and Cycles for this shot but came across a problem with the rendering.  The results were quite nice but the noise and speckles were time consuming to get rid of. There are ways to get rid of speckles and noise in Cycles but I didn't have the time. I really want to use Blender for a project for the fluid Sim :)

This is an important shot because it's the finale.  I tried to create this shot in Blender but had problems with creating caustics :( .  I used Maya, Vray and Photoshop. Most of the compositing was done in Photoshop then taken in to After Effects to be animated.  Those are suppose to be jelly beans on that plate by the way.

This shot is very difficult and I need to experiment with it. The idea behind this, is to get the typography to write itself on wet glass.  Most of this was done in photoshop whilst the writing effect was done in After effects.

This is the tutorial I used to created this effect.
 Thank you abduzeedo

That's pretty much it. I'm going to try and do something with Blender and Sketch up next time.

3D Camera Tracking Update!

Today I've finally been able to create a half decent 3d camera track using a software named Boujou.  Autodesk Matchmover was just to complex for me in the end. I'll post some links to video tutorials
I used.  The coordinate system and and frame rate are really important when doing this.

Very pleased with the out come.

3D Camera Tracking Nightmares

At this moment in time I'm learning the art of 3D camera tracking using Autodesk MatchMover (it's free with Maya) and finding it to be a fairly straight forward yet frustrating process.  The part of the process I'm having issues with is setting up the Coordinates so the grid is aligned with the ground in the video footage.  At the moment I have been getting by with trial and error but still haven't grasped what I am doing right or wrong.

This is a camera track attempt I did today:

Most of time went into getting the coordinates right. I have seen some tutorials where they seem to have the experience of placing the trackers in the best place's and setup the coordinates with ease.  I have a feeling it's very simple to do but I just can't get my head around it. I will not give up!

The zombie and animation can be downloaded for free from http://www.mixamo.com/ and you can follow them on twitter too.  The BG footage is from gettyimages.
